The 60th General Assembly World Federation of International Music Competitions Yerevan June 15-18, 2016

THE 60th GENERAL ASSEMBLY WORLD FEDERATION OF INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITIONS YEREVAN JUNE 15 - 18, 2016

The World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) is proud to announce that it’s 60th General Assembly will be held June 15 -18, 2016 in Yerevan, Armenia. Founded in 1957, the WFIMC is the premiere governing body of the world’s music competitions. Based in Geneva, the WFIMC is a network and advocacy organization that represents the interests of 115 of the world’s leading music competitions.

The 60th General Assembly is welcomed by the Minister of Culture of Armenia, Mrs. Hasmik Poghosyan, and hosted by the Aram Khachaturian International Competition. Over 60 international delegates will gather at the Matenadaran?and Komitas Museums in the heart of the nation’s capital for four comprehensive days of keynote addresses, plenary sessions, network events, and a gala concert featuring WFIMC competition laureates.

‘The WFIMC is grateful for the generous hospitality offered by the Armenian Government and its people. The presentation of our annual Assembly in one of the world’s oldest and richest cultures where Europe and Asia, east and west straddle, symbolizes the WFIMC’s global membership and it’s commitment to fellowship across borders through the democracy of music,’ said Mr. Benjamin Woodroffe, Secretary General, WFIMC.

Artistic Directors and Presidents from 35 premiere global music competitions will assemble to share the accomplishments and challenges experienced by music competitions today.

‘The occasion of our 60th anniversary brings a celebration of achievements and guest speakers. WFIMC is proud to announce that Mr John Gilhooly OBE, Artistic and Executive Director Wigmore Hall will present the 2016 keynote address. In a live stream video link from Wigmore Hall, Mr Gilhooly will outline his extensive programming experience of competition laureates.’

The WFIMC also welcomes Mr Didier Bensa, Executive Chairman, Medici.TV. Described by Forbes magazine as ‘the largest classical music audience on the web,’ medici.tv streams classical music 24/7, offering over 100 premium live concert events per year. A new collaboration between WFIMC and medici.tv will be announced at the Assembly.

On June 16, a Gala concert featuring WFIMC laureates will be held at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall. Russian pianist Georgy Tchaidze (2015 Top of the World Piano Competition, 2009 Honens International Piano Competition) performs Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1; Mongolian baritone Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar (2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition) offers aria selections by Rossini and Leoncavallo; Keleman Quartet members, Hungarian violinist Barnabás Kelemen (2002 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis) and violist Katalin Kokas (2012 Beijing International Music, 2014 Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition) will play Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola. The State Youth Orchestra of Armenia will be conducted by its Artistic Director, Sergey Smbatyan.
