Omer Meir Wellber in Munich, Birmingham and Vienna
2015 is a very special year for Omer Meir Wellber. After his debuts in London and Leipzig in April, he is now looking forward to his first concerts with Camerata Salzburg in the Konzerthaus Vienna, with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in November and, before that, on 24 October, to the season opening at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich: Arrigo Boito’s Mefistofele staged by German director Roland Schwab. With that production Omer Meir Wellber will return to the opera house, after conducting performances of Carmen and La Traviata in recent seasons and two Akademiekonzerte in February 2015.
On 9 September Omer Meir Wellber launched the education Sarab – Strings of Change together with the Israeli charity organization A new Dawn in the Negev as well as the Music conservatory of Be’er Sheva. Omer Meir Wellber is initiator and founding member of the project. Sarab strives to introduce a life transforming music program where it is needed most: among the Bedouins of the Negev, one of the poorest and most discriminated groups within Israeli society. In the beginning of 2015 a very modern music lab with two soundproof practice rooms was created at Al Salem Primary School. In April 2015 two professional part time teachers started the first violin lessons. The teachers reach over a 100 students. Next school year the first student concert is planned. Omer Meir Wellber is also Good Will Ambassador for the non-profit organization Save a Child’s Heart since 2013. The Israeli-based international organization provides lifesaving cardiac surgery and treatment for children from developing countries and a training program for doctors and nurses from these countries.
