Cellist Louise Dubin's New CD The Franchomme Project: Newly Discovered Works by Auguste Franchomme
Most every music-lover knows the Romantic-era composer Frederic Chopin, but hardly any have ever heard of his musical partner and close friend Auguste Franchomme (1808-1884).
Franchomme, the most renowned French cellist of his time, composed beautiful and virtuosic music works for his own instrument, which he performed to great acclaim. The cellist Louise Dubin, who spent years researching his life and work, devotes her debut album to his music. The Franchomme Project: Newly discovered works by Auguste Franchomme (Delos DE 3469), released September 11, 2015, includes some of his best compositions for cello duo, cello quartet, and cello and piano, many presented here in their world premiere recordings.
Also featured are Chopin's Introduction and Polonaise Brillante with Franchomme's ornamented version of the cello part, and premiere recordings of three of Franchomme's unpublished cello quartets, transcribed by Dubin from manuscripts stored in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. Dubin's in-depth research is behind her extensive liner notes (in both English and French) for the CD booklet. Also, the score Selected Works for Cello and Piano by Auguste Franchomme will be available from Dover Publications in November 2015 and features an introduction written by Dubin.
Joining Dubin on this recording are cellists Katherine Cherbas, Sæunn Thorsteinsdóttir and Julia Bruskin, and pianists Andrea Lam and Hélène Jeanney. The album was recorded and produced by 18-time Grammy-winner Steve Epstein.
Performances celebrating this release will take place in New York City on September 19 and September 27, 2015.
