Light & Sound Concerts Presents David Hykes and The Harmonic Choir

Light & Sound Concerts presents David Hykes and The Harmonic Choir, in concert on Friday, April 19 at 8:00 PM and Sunday, April 21 at 3:00 PM at The Old Stone House, Washington Park, 336 Third Street (bet. 4th & 5th Avenues) in Brooklyn, New York. Also on April 21, at 2:00 PM Light & Sound will present a special 40 minute Family Concert & Conversation with the Artists. These are presented as part of Light & Sound’s Spring 2013 concert series, in conjunction with La Foundation Présence Harmonique.
The concert,, will be a program of Harmonic Chant, Hykes' contemplative “music of the spheres,” combining modal sacred chant and explorations of the voice’s harmonic spectrum. These concerts celebrate the composer’s 60th birthday and the 30th anniversary of his seminal album, Hearing Solar Winds. Hykes will also feature his recently developed Harmonic Vision live video program that includes on-site imagery created totally by the voices as the concert unfolds. The concert will also include Timothy Hill, Seth Markel, Joel Bluestein and Ev Mann on percussion.

David Hykes is a composer, singer, teacher of contemplative music and meditation, and visual artist. He founded Harmonic Chant and the Harmonic Presence contemplative practices approach to a “music of the spheres” based on the harmonic series present everywhere in music and the universe. He was Artist-in-residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York for ten years before moving to France, where he directs a contemplative music retreat center. Light & Sound, curated by its founder/director, violinist Julianne Klopotic, is a full spectrum performance series. Unique in its approach, the 2013 season includes performances informed by New/Experimental Music, Classical, Jazz/Rock and World Music.
