Jonathan Nott to Teatre del Liceu
British conductor Jonathan Nott, music director of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and principal conductor of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, is adding the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona) to his CV, effective as of 2026–27 and running for five seasons. He succeeds Josep Pons, in the job since 2012 and now taking on the title of honorary music director.
Nott’s past leadership positions include the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra (2000–2016), the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, and the Ensemble Intercontemporain, among others.
“I am looking forward to reuniting with this great team at the start of the 2026–2027 season,” said the conductor who has not yet worked with the group. He did, however, attend a performance of Dvorák’s Rusalka at the theater and reports being impressed. He steps down from Suisse Romande at the end of next season.
