Kings Singers Cancelled for Their 'Lifestyle' by Florida Christian College
The acclaimed King’s Singers have been cancelled by Pensacola Christian College. Two hours before their scheduled concert there last Saturday, they received notice that the school was concerned about the “lifestyle” of members of the group and so was canceling their concert. Hopefully they will sue for breach of contract, although their posting on Facebook appears gracefully understated.
In response, one Facebook commenter has written: What? On behalf of the intelligent, level-headed citizens of Florida (there ARE some), I apologize. Our so-called governor appears to be a throwback to 1937 Germany and has instilled fear into his citizens who choose to remain uninformed and narrow minded.
The a cappella group is comprised two countertenors, one tenor, two baritones, and a bass—the same formation as at its founding over 50 years ago by six choral scholars from King’s College Cambridge, hence the name.
