NEW YORK, NY — The 92nd Street Y, New York (92NY) today announced its 2026/27 Tisch Music Season. The third season curated by Tisch Music Executive Director Nicholas F. Russotto, 2026/27 builds on his expansive approach to genre, re-imagining masterworks, recital formats, contemporary music programming, and more, with performances by leading artists across classical music, jazz, Broadway, opera, folk, and beyond.

Highlights include Patti LuPone's opening-night performance of A Life in Notes; the only estate-sanctioned New York City celebrations of the Miles Davis Centennial; three contrasting programs with Anthony McGill that culminate in a duo recital with Conrad Tao; concert performances of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas starring Joyce DiDonato, Nicholas Phan, Il Pomo d'Oro, and Maxim Emelyanychev; the launch of the Brentano String Quartet's multi-concert complete Beethoven String Quartet cycle marking the composer's bicentennial; Aristo Sham's highly anticipated 92NY debut; the return of the Brad Mehldau Trio; Lyrics & Lyricists celebrations of Ray Charles featuring Brandon Victor Dixon and Stephen Schwartz; So Percussion's performance of Steve Reich's Drumming in honor of the composer's 90th birthday; the return of JACK Quartet with premieres from its JACK Studio initiative; and major appearances by Midori, Christian Gerhaher, Fazil Say, Jeremy Denk, Isabelle Faust, and many more.

Russotto said: "At 92NY, we are continually inspired by the connections that emerge between artists, ideas, and audiences. This season reflects our belief in the concert hall as a point of connection, where traditions are renewed, perspectives are expanded, and new discoveries emerge. Across the season, audiences will experience familiar works in fresh contexts, encounter new voices alongside established masters, and hear music that invites deeper listening and reflection. We hope each performance feels both complete in itself, while also being part of a larger artistic journey that reveals music as a living continuum of creativity, curiosity, and human expression."

ICONS

Throughout the 2026/27 season, 92NY celebrates artists whose work has shaped culture across generations. The season opens on October 1 with Broadway legend Patti LuPone's A Life in Notes, a deeply personal musical journey through the songs that have defined her remarkable life and career. On October 16 and 17, 92NY hosts the Miles Davis estate's official centenary celebration in two exclusive New York City performances featuring the A Kind of Blue Band and Miles Electric Band, exploring the revolutionary acoustic and electric eras of one of the most influential artists in music history. Tituss Burgess brings his singular blend of vocal brilliance, humor, and theatricality to the stage on October 26, while Tony Award winner LaChanze returns for a rare New York concert on February 22, performing a career-spanning program that reflects nearly four decades of transformative work on Broadway and beyond. The season's celebration of musical innovators continues on April 16 when Pulitzer Prize finalist Wadada Leo Smith joins fellow innovators Andrew Cyrille and Qasim Naqvi for an evening drawn from their acclaimed collaboration Two Centuries. Then, on May 5, eleven-time Grammy Award winner Christian McBride returns with his celebrated Big Band, bringing the exuberance, sophistication, and collective spirit that have established him as one of the defining figures in modern jazz. The season concludes on June 8 with an all-Brahms recital by baritone Christian Gerhaher, widely regarded as one of the world's foremost interpreters of German lieder, bringing his extraordinary artistry to songs that stand among the genre's most profound achievements alongside his longtime piano accompanist Gerhold Huber.

MASTERWORKS REIMAGINED

Alongside contemporary innovation, the season offers fresh encounters with some of music's most enduring works. On November 11, legendary early music ensemble Les Arts Florissants makes its 92NY debut with a program devoted to Monteverdi under the direction of William Christie and Paul Agnew. Anthony McGill joins Orpheus Chamber Orchestra on December 16 for Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, before returning twice more during the season in chamber collaborations. One of the year's signature events arrives on February 4 and 5, when Joyce DiDonato, Nicholas Phan, Il Pomo d'Oro, and conductor Maxim Emelyanychev present concert performances of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. On February 10, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet joins Grammy Award-winning vocalist Luciana Souza for an evening showcasing the ensemble's signature blend of virtuosity, stylistic versatility, and musical collaboration. The season also launches the first half of the Brentano String Quartet's complete Beethoven String Quartet cycle, with performances on February 21, April 18, and May 9, marking the composer's bicentennial. Additional highlights include Midori on February 13, Garrick Ohlsson and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra performing Chopin's piano concertos on May 16, and numerous opportunities to experience beloved repertoire through the lens of today's most compelling interpreters.

RECITALS REMIXED

The recital remains one of classical music's most enduring forms, but throughout the season 92NY explores the many ways artists continue to expand, reshape, and reimagine it. Violinist Curtis Stewart launches the season's recital programming on October 9 with American Caprices, transforming familiar songs from across the American musical landscape into dazzling displays of virtuosity and invention. On October 23, mezzo-soprano Ema Nikolovska and guitarist Sean Shibe bring Virginia Woolf's Orlando to life through an imaginative blend of music and storytelling. The season continues with appearances by celebrated artists including Pierre-Laurent Aimard on November 18, Raphaël Feuillâtre on November 21, Richard Goode on December 6, and Ana Vidovic on December 20, each bringing a distinctive voice to the recital tradition. Jeremy Denk returns on January 30, followed by Elisabeth Brauss on February 6 and David Kaplan on February 19, whose thoughtfully curated program places Beethoven in dialogue with contemporary voices. On February 26, Chromic Duo presents The Seasons, a genre-fluid meditation on transformation and renewal that blends classical music, toy piano, electronics, and contemporary works. Additional highlights include Isabelle Faust and Kristian Bezuidenhout performing Bach's sonatas for violin and harpsichord on March 7, Blake Pouliot and Henry Kramer on March 12, and Aristo Sham's 92NY debut on April 4. Anthony McGill concludes his three-concert season residency on April 8 alongside pianist Conrad Tao, bringing together two of classical music's most imaginative artists in their first New York City performance together, before Grammy Award-winning pianist Brad Mehldau returns on April 14 with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Marcus Gilmore. The season's recital offerings conclude with performances by guitarist David Russell on April 15, cellist Pablo Ferrández on May 4, the Kris Davis Trio featuring Robert Hurst & Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts on May 7, and pianist-composer Fazil Say on May 14.

LYRICS & LYRICISTS
92NY's acclaimed L&L series continues its decades-long exploration of the artists behind the American songbook with celebrations of legendary singer-songwriter and activist Joan Baez featuring Andréa Burns (November 7–9), musical pioneer Ray Charles with Brandon Victor Dixon (March 13–15), and Broadway and film songwriter Stephen Schwartz (June 12–14), whose works have become woven into the fabric of American culture. The season also includes one-night-only Lyrics & Lyricists special events with Stephin Merritt, of legendary indie rock band The Magnetic Fields (December 18), and Tony Award-winners Shaina Taub (January 28) and Jason Robert Brown (March 1).

CONTEMPORARY RECOMPOSED
New music and contemporary perspectives remain central to 92NY's artistic vision. On October 28, So Percussion celebrates the 90th birthday of Steve Reich with a performance of the landmark minimalist masterpiece Drumming. Sandbox Percussion returns on November 7 with Andy Akiho's acclaimed Seven Pillars, before reuniting with the composer on April 24 for a major new 92NY co-commission featuring Akiho as soloist. New works and fresh perspectives appear throughout the season, including The Westerlies' December 15 return to 92NY with South African vocalist Vuyo Sotashe, who will perform an inventive adaptation of Maria Schneider's Winter Morning Walks, alongside a new 92NY commission by Ellis Ludwig-Leone; a new co-commission by Gabriel Kahane for Trio Afiori on February 27; a new work by Jimmy López performed by Blake Pouliot and Henry Kramer on March 12; and the return of JACK Quartet on March 19 with premieres from its JACK Studio initiative.
