The performance will be livestreamed and available on-demand to audiences worldwide from February 12–22, 2026

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – January 6, 2026 – Continuing their proud tradition of collaborative performances, Cantus welcomes The King’s Singers for a special concert on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 7:30 PM at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. The one-night-only event will also be livestreamed and made available to audiences on demand through February 22, 2026 in a pay-what-you-can format, starting at $5.

This concert will mark the first time that Cantus & The King’s Singers share the stage. Each vocal ensemble will sing arrangements and original music created for their singular vocal styles, performing selections both separately and as one. Cantus brings its American warmth and innovation while The King’s Singers provides the British precision and charm for an evening of a cappella fireworks.

The King’s Singers join in the longstanding tradition of Cantus’ collaborative concerts. Recent performances have included partnerships with The SwinglesThe Canadian Brass, the award-winning Norwegian women’s choir CantusChanticleerSweet Honey in the Rock, and Lorelei Ensemble.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with the wonderful singers of Cantus for this special occasion in February,” say The King’s Singers. “We've long admired their work, and are so happy we've managed to get ourselves in the same place at the same time for this collaboration. We've been working on a beautiful programme celebrating our friendship, and important musical friendships through history, and we can't wait to get to work making some beautiful sounds together.”

Cantus tenor Paul Scholtz is incandescent when he speaks about this upcoming concert with The King’s Singers. “When I was growing up in small town Iowa, I was introduced to both Cantus and the King’s Singers in high school choir – one of my neighbors growing up was Michael Hanawalt, a founding member of Cantus, and, for me, nothing could top the King’s Singers own countertenor David Hurley singing Lullabye by Billy Joel. I dreamed of singing in either Cantus or The King’s Singers. Now, not only have my dreams come true, but we also get to perform together this February 12th at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis!”

Cantus’ additional upcoming programs in the 2025-26 season include Deep River (March 15-22), featuring cherished works of the choral canon that lift up the bonds formed when joining together in song; Covers: Dolly & Friends (May 30 – June 7), with iconic hits that pay tribute to the wit, warmth, and wisdom that have made Dolly Parton a true living legend; Genius Child (July 14-17), a program that explores what it means to create beauty in the face of injustice; and Cantus’ annual fundraising event, Cantus Idol, themed “Silver Screen Showstoppers” which takes place at the Metropolitan Club and Ballroom on May 4.

About Cantus

Now in its 31st season, the “engaging” (New Yorker) low-voice ensemble Cantus is widely known for its trademark warmth and blend, innovative programming and riveting performances of music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century. The Washington Post has hailed the Cantus sound as having both “exalting finesse” and “expressive power” and refers to the “spontaneous grace” of its music making. The Philadelphia Inquirer called the group nothing short of “exquisite.”

As one of the nation’s few full-time vocal ensembles, Cantus has come to prominence with its distinctive approach to creating music. Working without a conductor, the members of Cantus rehearse and perform as chamber musicians, each contributing to the entirety of the artistic process, creating programs that give voice to shared human experiences. As the Star Tribune has written, “The main hallmark of the Cantus sound has always been sheer quality and an unbroken belief in the special way that vocal music has of warming and invigorating the human spirit.”

Cantus enjoys a vigorous schedule of national and international touring, in addition to home concerts in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. Cantus has performed at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, UCLA, San Francisco Performances, Tanglewood and Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival. Cantus also makes all of its home concerts available online. This pandemic-prompted innovation has brought the ensemble’s programs to audiences spanning 50 states and sixteen countries.

Cantus records for the UK-based Signum Classics label which has released the popular COVID-19 SessionsManifesto, holiday album Into the LightAlone Together and, in July 2025, Fields of Wonder.  Cantus also has a deep catalog of recordings released on the group’s eponymous label.

Committed to the expansion of the vocal music repertoire, Cantus actively commissions new music and seeks to unearth rarely performed repertoire for low voices. Cantus has received commissioning grants from New Music USA, the National Endowment for the Arts, Chorus America, American Composers Forum and Chamber Music America. In 2023, Cantus was honored with the Alice Parker Fund Award from Chorus America that recognizes the exemplary work of an ensemble that respectfully and authentically presents works incorporating Black and Latinx traditions and experiences. In line with Cantus’ ongoing commitment to fostering new works, the ensemble has partnered with Graphite Marketplace on the Cantus Publishing series, distributing Cantus’ signature compositions, commissions and arrangements for ensembles everywhere to perform.

Cantus has a rich history of collaborations with other performing arts organizations, including the Minnesota Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Boston Pops, Chanticleer, The Swingles, Canadian Brass, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Lorelei Ensemble, Theater Latté Da and the James Sewell Ballet. The ensemble is heard frequently on both classical public radio nationwide and on SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

Integral to the Cantus mission is its commitment to preserve and strengthen music education in schools. Cantus works with more than 5,000 students each year in masterclass and workshop settings across the country and has been in-residence in 31 Minnesota high schools throughout their award-winning program’s 15-year history. The Cantus High School Mentorship program offers Cantus artists in-residence at one Twin Cities-based high school for the entirety of the school year. Cantus has also broadened its work by launching a yearly, statewide festival in partnership with American Choral Directors Association Minnesota catered to high school tenor and bass singers. Additionally, the ensemble hosts an annual Young and Emerging Composers Competition to encourage the creation of new repertoire through cash prizes, a performance, recording, and potential publication of winning composers.

About The King’s Singers

The King's Singers have set the gold standard in a cappella singing on the world’s greatest stages for over 55 years. They are renowned for their unrivalled technique, musicianship and versatility, which stem from the group’s rich heritage and its drive to bring an extraordinary range of new and unique works, collaborations and recordings to life. The King’s Singers’ extensive discography has led to numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, and a place in Gramophone magazine’s inaugural Hall of Fame.

The King’s Singers were officially formed in 1968 when six recent choral scholars from King’s College, Cambridge gave a concert at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. By chance, the group was made up of two countertenors, a tenor, two baritones and a bass, and the group has stuck to this formation ever since.

In the last few years, the group has recorded a series of diverse, collaborative albums that showcase the huge breadth of their repertoire. One honors two great English Renaissance composers: Thomas Weelkes and William Byrd; another is centered around Romantic music; a third honors 100 years of Disney, with 28 brand-new arrangements of iconic Disney songs; a fourth is a double-album focused on the group’s library of signature ‘close harmony’ arrangements; and another celebrates the group’s extraordinary body of commissioned new music.

Growing the global canon of choral music has always been one of the group's key aims, and The King’s Singers have now commissioned more than 300 works by many of the most prominent composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. These composers include John Tavener, Joe Hisaishi, Judith Bingham, Eric Whitacre, György Ligeti, Luciano Berio, Penderecki and Toru Takemitsu. All this new music joins their body of bespoke a cappella arrangements, including many by King’s Singers past and present.

Alongside their demanding performing and recording schedule – with over 100 concerts worldwide every season – the group leads educational workshops and residential courses across the globe, working with ensembles on their approaches to group singing. To mark their 50th anniversary in 2018, they founded The King’s Singers Global Foundation (based in the USA), to provide a platform to support the creation of new music across multiple disciplines, to coach a new generation of performers, and to provide musical opportunities to people of all backgrounds.
