Pianist Daniel Ciobanu's upcoming performance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, debut with his own chamber orchestra: Addixion and return to the Enescu Festival in Bucharest

This July, Daniel Ciobanu returns to the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Ariel Zuckerman, performing Prokofiev’s 3rd Piano Concerto—a reinvitation following his appearances with them in Shostakovich’s 2nd Piano Concerto and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. On August 28th, the pianist will present the first concert in Bucharest with his newly founded chamber string orchestra, Addixion—a dynamic ensemble of young instrumentalists from Bucharest’s leading orchestras. The program features an eclectic mix of classical repertoire (curated by Daniel for piano and strings from various local composers), jazz adaptations, and film music, showcasing his versatility and innovative vision. On September 10th, he makes his fifth consecutive appearance at the Enescu Festival, joining conductor Gabriel Bebe?elea and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra in a program featuring Albéniz/Enescu’s Spanish Rhapsody and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue—a preview of which will be performed at Antwerp’s "Classic on the Square" open-air concert on September 6th.

This season, Ciobanu has added further milestones to his artistic journey with a celebrated appearance at the prestigious "Le Piano Symphonique" festival of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra. He also performed Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto with the Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest, reaffirming his profound connection with the Romantic repertoire.

In June, pianist Daniel Ciobanu performed Prokofiev’s 3rd Piano Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Gemma New, earning stellar reviews. Karl Hornsey from On: Yorkshire Magazine described his interpretation as: "Instantly recognisable. [...] To watch Ciobanu in action is truly mesmerising, as he brings to life the pace and sheer aggression of the work as it builds to a crashing finale. To then be treated to an amusing and varied performance by the pianist, showcasing his range of talents to the full, was the icing on the cake for the first half."

Beyond the concert stage, pianist Daniel Ciobanu recently completed recording his highly anticipated new album, Syncopath—a deeply personal musical manifesto that reflects on the complexities and triumphs of the artist’s life in today’s world, featuring works by Ravel, Liszt, Chopin, and Bill Evans. More info to come!

In May 2025, the "Shostakovich Discoveries" was published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich's death on Deutsche Grammophon, including the world premiere of "In the forest" with Daniel Ciobanu.
