Chloë Dickens and the Alegría Ensemble to Premiere New Work by Edward Smaldone
New York, NY — Internationally recognized violinist Chloë Dickens, now based in Queens, will perform While the Sand Still Runs, a new composition by renowned composer Edward Smaldone, with her ensemble, Alegría, on March 30th in Port Washington, NY.
This marks the first presentation of Smaldone's work by the ensemble, which explores themes of life's journey and the passage of time. The concert will also feature works by Ernest Bloch, Lili Boulanger, and Haydn, offering an eclectic mix of classical and contemporary music.
Founded by Dickens, the Alegría Ensemble is celebrated for its collaborative spirit, bringing together world-class musicians from diverse backgrounds. The ensemble’s performances are marked by vibrant interpretations and a commitment to presenting both new and historical works that challenge the conventions of classical music.
“We are thrilled to bring this beautiful new work to life,” said Dickens. “Smaldone’s composition speaks deeply to us, blending technical precision with emotional depth—something we are passionate about as an ensemble.”
Composer Edward Smaldone, named Composer of the Year by the Classical Recording Foundation in 2016, shares the excitement. “Collaborating with artists who truly interpret the music is a unique joy,” he said. “Chloë and Alegría breathe life into every piece they perform, and I’m honored to see my work come to life with such a remarkable group.”
