Meira Warshauer’s Yiddish Fantasy for solo violin, strings, piano and percussion will be performed by the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony, Dr. Noreen Green, Artistic Director, on Sunday, May 15 – 7 PM at Memorial Hall on the Campus of Chapman University in Orange, California. This will be part of Klassics to Klezmer, an Evening of Jewish Music.
The composer writes about the piece, “Yiddish Fantasy is an arrangement of several Yiddish songs and klezmer tunes which were popular among the Jews of Eastern Europe at the turn of the century…These tunes were played by Jewish musicians, klezmorim, at weddings and other celebrations. Written for Daniel Heifetz and The Classical Band, Yiddish Fantasy provides a glimpse into the culture of the Jews of Eastern Europe at the turn of the century.” Read her complete notes at http://meirawarshauer.com/NEW/pages/P rogram_notes/Yiddish_notes.html.
Other works on the program will focus on Jewish themes, and will feature klezmer clarinet master Zinovy Goro and flute soloist Alexandra Wallin.
