Chandos Buys Bridge

David and Becky Starobin have sold their pioneering label Bridge to Chandos Records. David, composer and noted guitarist, founded Bridge in 1981 and boldly issued recordings of works by the likes of Elliott Carter, Poul Ruders, Morton Feldman, George Crumb, and Hans Werner Henze, earning  37 Grammy nominations and numerous other awards, exposing repertoire few others would dare to touch.

“A bit of news,” wrote David on Facebook, “after 45 years in the record business, our label, Bridge Records, has been bought by Chandos Records, to be run from London and Hong Kong. We're delighted with the sale, and know the Bridge catalog is now in excellent hands, with much improved reach.

“Our thanks to the hundreds of musicians who have recorded for us over the decades. It has been a privilege, and an education to work with all of you.”

Chandos Records is owned by Naxos Music Group founder Klaus Heymann, without whom the recorded classical music business would look very different than it does today. Chandos owns nine labels, including Oehms Classics, Chaconee, Orfeo, and now Bridge, and distributes over 50.
