San Antonio Phil Cancels Concerts
The downward spiral of the San Antonio Philharmonic continues, as news arrives of the cancellation of its Holiday Pops and New Year’s Eve concerts. It hardly seems surprising since just days ago it was ordered to vacate the Scottish Rite Theater where it has been performing for the last year.
No explanation is provided in the announcement, rather an invitation to musicians to meet Friday afternoon to “address questions and concerns you may have.”
The Philharmonic’s website no longer offers tickets for Pops and New Year’s Eve concerts, but does continue to list the ensemble’s classical concerts on Dec. 12 and 13 and a series of both classical and pops shows through May 2026.

When contacted by phone, Philharmonic Executive Director Roberto Treviño reiterated what he had told the Current last week—the lawyers for the orchestra are hoping to reach a new agreement with Scottish Rite to use the 2,200-seat auditorium.
This latest news suggests there is a larger reckoning regarding the San Antonio Philharmonic in the offing. The steady drumbeat of bad news does nothing to foster confidence about the group’s future.
