The Reina Sofia School of Music (Madrid, Spain) organises two Summer Programmes intended for 8- to 17-year-olds

March 1, 2021

THE REINA SOFIA SCHOOL OF MUSIC ORGANISES TWO SUMMER PROGRAMMES INTENDED FOR 8- TO 17-YEAR-OLDS

  • From 5 to 18 July, the Reina Sofía School of Music offers two unique programmes of music training, the Young Artists Summer Camp in Madrid and the Music and Fun Summer Camp in Santander.
  • Young Artists: a 100% musical programme that will be held in Madrid with 12- to 17-year-olds.
  • Music and Fun: musical, cultural, and leisure programme in Santander, intended for 8- to 12-year-olds, which embraces all levels of experience with string instruments or piano.
  • Both programmes offer the possibility of choosing between Full Campus (where students stay overnight) or Day Campus. Furthermore, the Reina Sofía School offers scholarships on the cost of the programme, as well as early bird discounts. Limited slots.

Madrid, 1st March 2021.- The Reina Sofía School of Music is holding its fifth edition of the Music and Culture Summer Camp, with the novelty of being able to choose between two summer programmes that take place on the same dates – from 5 to 18 July – but in different cities.

The Young Artists Summer Camp programme, in Madrid, is intended for 12- to 17-year-olds with intermediate and advanced levels and at least two years of experience playing an instrument, as well as previous musical training. The participants will be able to enjoy at the Reina Sofía School of Music’s facilities a 100% musical experience, consisting of individual classes of instrument technique, rehearsals, chamber music, “Building an Artist” masterclasses and the “Building Teamwork” subject that will help them enter the professional world of music and create a common project among several participants.

On the other hand, the Music and Fun Summer Camp, which will take place in Santander, is intended for 8- to 12-year-olds interested in string instruments or piano. The summer experience will be a cultural and linguistic immersion in the world of music with sports, languages, and leisure activities, balancing the intensity of instrumental activity. It is open to all levels and is a great choice as a prelude to the “Young Artists” programme.

Participants will combine their individual and chamber music classes at the Ataúlfo Argenta Conservatory with leisure and sports activities – swimming, tennis, volleyball, etc. – at the Ruth Beitia Municipal Sports Complex. They will study languages, surf on weekends, attend closed-doors rehearsals of the 20th Santander Encounter of Music and Academy, a music festival throughout Cantabria organised by the School, and more cultural activities, which will make their time in the programme a fun and enriching experience.

All participants will be educated in values closely associated to the Reina Sofía School such as perseverance, dedication, teamwork, high level of responsibility, and promotion of dialogue between cultures through music and arts. In both programmes, students will be able to develop their artistic skills with the best teachers, in an international atmosphere with colleagues from all over the world.

At the end of each programme, participants will perform in front of their own family and friends. A successful music performance as the culmination of two weeks of learning in an unforgettable summer.

Both programmes offer Full Campus (students stay overnight) or Day Campus. In addition, the Reina Sofía School offers scholarships covering 40% of the cost of the programmes to those families interested in having their children participate in the Young Artists programme or early bird discounts in the case of the Music and Fun Summer Camp.

About The Reina Sofia School of Music:

The Reina Sofia School of Music was created in 1991 with the double mission of contributing to the development of young musicians and bringing music closer to society. 30 years later, it is considered one of the leading schools in the international scene. Her Majesty Queen Sofía is the Honorary President of the School, whose board of trustees brings together public institutions and private firms to work towards a common objective.

The 150 students from 30 different countries who study at the School are selected solely on a merit basis. The free tuition system enjoyed by all of them means that no talent is excluded due to a lack of resources. They receive personalised training from the best specialists in the world and perform in more than 300 public concerts that the School organises annually in the most prestigious venues in Spain and abroad.

The School’s concerts are open to the public. Most of them are free of charge, and the paying ones have very reduced prices with special conditions for students, unemployed, and senior citizens. The School also holds concerts for schoolchildren, families, and hospitals. Overall, its music reaches more than 70,000 people per year. The School’s alumni, who are already 800 young musicians spread all over the world, are part of a large family that has been enriching the music scene for years.

The School is the main programme of the Albéniz Foundation, a non-profit institution founded in 1987 by its President, Paloma O’Shea.
