The Glimmerglass Festival
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
The Glimmerglass Festival is a professional, non-profit opera and musical theater company that presents four new productions in rotation every July and August. The company’s Alice Busch Opera Theater is set on Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, New York, and has been home to more than 100 productions, many of which have been world and professional premieres. Mainstage performances are supplemented by special concerts, a discussion series and many free events, including question-and-answer sessions with the casts and backstage tours.
The 2014 Festival focuses on 100 years of music and features new productions of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, Strauss’ Ariadne in Naxos and Tobias Picker’s An American Tragedy in repertory on the mainstage.
This season’s special events include:
  • Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, back by popular demand to share her passion for opera and unique perspective on law in the arts
  • Legendary dramatic soprano Jessye Norman works with members of the Young Artists Program in a master class
  • 2014 Artist in Residence Christine Goerke sings in concert on the same stage where she made her debut as a Young Artist more than 20 years ago
  • Internationally acclaimed stage director Jonathan Miller works with Young Artists in a free, public master class
  • Members of the Young Artists Program fill the evening with beautiful music in a special Bel Canto Concert
  • The ShowTalk lecture series continues with discussions with eminent scholars and artists, with live performances by members of the Young Artists Program
  • The popular Meet Me at the Pavilion concert series returns with special performances by our guest artists and Young Artists.
