- Emcee Conan O’Brian introduced San Diego Symphony along with Star Trek Beyond stars John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Idris Elba.

- Star Trek Beyond world premiere took place at San Diego Symphony’s picturesque waterfront park, home to its outdoor concert series, Bayside Summer Nights.

- The world premiere of Star Trek Beyond also served as the kick-off to the city of San Diego’s internationally renowned Comic-Con, which will be in town through this week.

Hollywood came to San Diego on Wednesday night as the San Diego Symphony took center stage to perform the movie score from the highly-anticipated and likely summer blockbuster, Star Trek Beyond directed by Justin Lin with producer J.J. Abrams and starring John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Idris Elba. Before the movie began, the stars walked the red carpet at San Diego Symphony’s Embarcadero Marina Park South.

With the Orchestra in place and the capacity crowd in their seats, emcee Conan O’Brian welcomed the cast to the stage along with award-winning director, producer, screenwriter and composer J.J. Abrams and Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino, who composed a tribute to actors Leonard Nimoy, the original Dr. Spock, and Anton Yelchin, which was performed by the Orchestra before the start of the movie. J.J. Abrams then led a moment of silence dedicated to Anton Yelchin, who died last month at his home in Studio City.

Conductor Richard Kaufman, who appeared on NPR this morning commented about the San Diego Symphony: “A lot of symphony orchestras play Brahms and Beethoven and Mozart great, but when you put a film score in front of them, they play it in a kind of a shy way. They're not exactly sure how to become a musical actor in the film. And this orchestra, they understand the drama. If it's real exciting, they play real exciting. If it's romantic, they play real romantic.”

San Diego Symphony CEO Martha Gilmer stated, “We are extraordinarily proud of the San Diego Symphony musicians. For this international, world premiere event, our musicians performed as they always do—at an extraordinary level. Our partnership with Paramount Pictures worked beautifully with staffs and crews of both organizations joining forces to make the event a great success.”

San Diego Symphony performs for Comic-Con audiences tonight and tomorrow night with Final Symphony based on the video game Final Fantasy X and a full, 45-minute symphony based on the music of Final Fantasy VII and The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses – Master Quest, a four-movement symphonic work which chronicles favorite moments from the franchise’s rich and storied history expertly times with a gorgeous, larger-than-life video presentation.
