Barcelona Festival of Song®: Nine Years of Building Bridges of Cultural Exchange and Understanding

June 17, 2013 | By Mundo Arts Inc.
The 9th Barcelona Festival of Song® will take place in various locations of Barcelona from 20th June to 6th July, presenting an incredible series of events including the summer course of History and Interpretation of the Latin American and Iberian Peninsula Vocal Repertoire followed by a cycle of ten concerts performed by prominent musicians from Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Catalonia, Colombia, United States of America, the Netherlands, Ireland and México.

This year’s festival will embrace folk and Latin American pop repertoires as well as the art song. The whole vision of Latin American and Iberian music arises from the premise that all styles nourishes and communicate with each other, enriching one another throughout that process.

The festival’s programme includes ten free concerts, which will take place in various venues all over the city, such as Palau Moja, Biblioteca de Catalunya, Residència d’Investigadors and Centre Artesà Tradicionàrius. The programme covers different sorts of music, from flamenco to choir music, Latin American, art song and piano repertoire. Festival’s audience will have the opportunity to see performances by singer-songwriter Marta Gómez, soprano Patricia Caicedo accompanied by Ivana Krusedolac (piano), mezzosoprano Marisa Martins accompanied by Mac McClure (piano) and Jonathan Camps (double bass), Brazilian mezzosoprano Josani Keuckneke with Jorge Martínez (piano), flamenco singer Paula Dominguez with guitarist Manuel Castilla, pianists Carolina Estrada and Adam Kent and the Sydney Childrens' Choir.

In 2013, for the second year in a row, Barcelona Festival of Song®, in collaboration with Anella Cultural (a project led by the Subdirecció General de Promoció Cultural of the Departament de Cultura of the Generalitat de Catalunya) and Centro Cultural São Paulo (Brazil), will simultaneously broadcast classes and concerts between Barcelona and São Paulo through Internet2 network. This important project, pioneering in innovation of education on international level, will contribute to the promotion of Catalan culture in the world and will help to establish cultural bridges between Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula.
