Lori Laitman's Music Showcased on Opera America Salon Series Sept 15, 2010
American composer Lori Laitman’s music will be showcased in New York at Opera America’s Salon Series on September 15, 2010. The event, “An Evening with Lori Laitman,” will feature vocalists Sari Gruber, Vale Rideout and Randall Scarlata accompanied by the composer, presenting a selection of art songs as well as the NY premiere of excerpts from Laitman’s opera, The Scarlet Letter. The evening will conclude with a conversation led by Opera America’s President and CEO, Mr. Marc C. Scorca.
Opera America’s Salon Series was established in 2008 to promote and present the diverse and unique voices of today’s most distinguished composers. This year the Salon will also showcase the musical talents of Paul Moravec, John Musto and Lewis Spratlan.
Lori Laitman is one of America's most prolific and widely performed composers of vocal music. She has composed two operas, an oratorio and over 200 songs, setting the words of classical and contemporary poets. Since launching her career in 1991, her music has been performed frequently in the U.S. and abroad by some of the world’s most gifted musicians. Her discography continues to grow and Naxos is scheduled to release her Holocaust oratorio, Vedem, in the spring of 2011.
Earlier this year, Laitman was the Featured Composer on Thomas Hampson's new online resource ( Song of America), and in June 2010, a retrospective concert of her music was presented at SongFest in California. In the fall of 2010 the composer will be the guest of the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia. “An Evening with Lori Laitman” will take place at the NY offices of Opera America on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 6 p.m. at 330 Seventh Avenue, 16th floor.
