Recital by Harpsichordist/Pianist Elaine Comparone 9/12/10 in NYC

The Queen's Chamber Band opens its New York season this year on Sunday, September 12 at 3 PM with a recital by the group's founder, harpsichordist Elaine Comparone, at St. Mark's Church In-the-Bowery (corner of Second Avenue and 10th Street in the East Village).

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of her Carnegie Recital Hall debut as a Concert Artist's Guild Award winner, Ms. Comparone plays solo works of Giles Farnaby (Fantasia, Pawles Wharfe, La Spagnoletta), Girolamo Frescobaldi (Capriccio sopra La Spagnoletta, Partite 14 sopra l'Aria della Romanesca), and Johann Sebastian Bach (Partita 1 in B-Flat Major). Following these pieces and a brief intermission, Ms. Comparone will play several pieces on both harpsichord and piano, demonstrating and explaining how the music gains or loses in each rendition, and inviting audience members to express their impressions and preferences. These pieces include J.S. Bach's Preludes in F Major and F minor snd Fugue in F minor from The Well-Tempered Clavier, Vol. II, as well ad Two Sonatas (TBA) by Domenico Scarlatti.
