Marking the 60th Anniversary of Korean War, Korean Artists Will Pay Tribute to American Veterans at Special Lincoln Center Concert

Korean War Survivors and Nurses Among the 100 Performers Traveling to the U.S. for "The Voice of Korea: The Korean War-Memorial Concert"

Congressman Charles B. Rangel and Korean American Association of Greater New York Chairman Yonghwa Ha to Address U.S.-Korean Relations

NEW YORK (August 17, 2010)--More than 100 classical music artists will travel to the U.S. and take one of the world's greatest stages--Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center--to honor the forgotten heroes of "the Forgotten War" on Thursday, August 26 at 7:30 pm. The Korean Women's Chorus of Germany, many of whom are Korean War survivors, soprano Kyoung-ran Kim, tenor Dong-Ho Shin, The Bohemian Singers and South Korea's first countertenor Sae-jin Kim are among the performers in The Voice of Korea: The Korean War-Memorial Concert. As 2010 is the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, the event is designed to pay tribute to the American soldiers who risked their lives to guarantee the freedoms of South Koreans. Congressman and Korean War veteran Charles B. Rangel will join forces with Yonghwa Ha, chairman of the Korean American Association of Greater New York, for remarks about U.S.-Korean relations. The event, which will be attended by South Korean Ambassador to the United Nations In-kook Park and South Korean Consul General Young-mok Kim, is sponsored by the Korea Foundation and produced by PMG Korea.

Sixty-five members of the Korean Women's Chorus of Germany, led by choral director Yong-sun Cheong, will perform. Having witnessed the Korean War firsthand, many of the group's members travelled to Germany to serve as nurses after the fighting ceased. To pass the time in off-hours they would meet to reminisce and sing Korean folk songs and arias--some traveling up to eight hours for rehearsal. As their singing skills improved they began performing at various events. In 2007, the group was officially founded.

Kyoung-ran Kim and Sae-jin Kim will each be accompanied by The New York Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dong-ki Shin. Tenor Dong-ho Shin, pianist Carissa Kim and Korean oboist Seongbin Bae will also perform, with Bae offering a Korean traditional song. The Bohemian Singers, an 11-person all-male group, will sing traditional operatic fare as well as folk songs from America, Korea and around the globe.

"Sadly, even in Korea, the Korean War is becoming a distant memory to many and few events hosted by the Korean people have paid tribute to the American soldier," said Peter Park, CEO and President of PMG Korea, producer of the event.

"In honor of the 60th anniversary of the war, we have tried our best to match the American soldiers' world-class efforts by hosting an event with world-class artists at one of the premier concert venues in the world, Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center." PMG Korea produced a similar thank you concert in Korea in October 2009 and invited U.S. veterans and current U.S. troops to attend.

American veterans of all wars will be invited to attend the concert for free. To purchase tickets, which cost $70, $50, and $20, please log onto www.lincolncenter.org.
