Harpsichordist Elaine Comparone in New York Recital Sunday, September 12
The Queen's Chamber Band opens its New York season this year with a recital by the group's founder, harpsichordist Elaine Comparone, Sunday, September 12, 2010 at St. Mark's Church In-the-Bowery (corner of Second Avenue and 10th Street in the East Village).
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of her Carnegie Recital Hall debut as a Concert Artist's Guild Award winner, Ms. Comparone plays solo works of Giles Farnaby (Fantasia, Pawles Wharfe, La Spagnoletta), Girolamo Frescobaldi (Capriccio sopra la Spagnoletta, Partite 14 sopra l'Aria della Romanesca), and Johann Sebastian Bach (Partita 1 in B-Flat Major). Following these pieces and a brief intermission, Ms. Comparone will play several pieces on both harpsichord and piano, demonstrating and explaining how the music gains or loses in each rendition and inviting audience members to express their impressions and preferences. These pieces include J.S. Bach's Preludes in F Major & F minor and Fugue in F minor from The Well-Tempered Clavier, Vol. II, as well as Two Sonatas (TBA) by Domenico Scarlatti.
Admission to this concert is $25. For reservations, call 212-280-1086. For additional information: www.harpsichord.org.
