Midwest Young Artists is pleased to announce their 2010-2011 performance season.
MYA is a non-profit full-curriculum music education and performance center that is constantly improving and introducing new and valuable programs in order to better serve its students and community. The program age range is 1-19 years old, and all serious students of varying skill levels are welcome.
This season, MYA has prepared a fantastic array of fine performances around the Chicagoland area in such venues as Pick-Staiger Concert Hall at Northwestern University, Symphony Center in Chicago, Ravinia Festival and MYA's own state of the art facility in Fort Sheridan, Highwood.
In addition to major concert events with larger ensembles, MYA will offer eleven free chamber music soirees this year. Conveniently located in Bennett-Gordon Hall at Ravinia Festival and performed by the students of MYA's critically acclaimed chamber music program, these performances are certain to delight.
The holiday season surely isn't complete without a holiday music extravaganza, which is precisely what MYA has in store for the lucky attendees of the "Be Festive" holiday event at Harris Theater on December 18th.
In furtherance of MYA's mission "To build a home with the power of music to enrich the lives of our students and community", MYA will be holding its annual Alumni Concert on Dec. 27th at the First United Methodist Church in Evanston. This concert is an opportunity for MYA members to "come home" and perform with their current and former colleagues.
MYA will host both the annual Discover Chamber Music Competition and Walgreens Concerto Competition again this season. These competitions bring out the very best in young musicians, and are open to all applicants, whether MYA members or not.
Midwest Young Artists is continuing this season with their recently formulated Miniature Young Artists early childhood music program, catering to 1-5 year old budding musicians who want to explore the exciting world of music with an affordable 7 week course.
MYA attracts the finest music faculty and guests for performances and master classes from Northwestern University, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Carthage College and many more. To illustrate this point, MYA's I Solisti large chamber group draws dedicated students from MYA's top groups to perform with Charles Pickler of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
