UNIVERSITY PARK (Thursday, July 22)—The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State invites children ages 9 to 12 to a rare opportunity to earn parts in State College performances by a major New York City-based modern dance company. Free and open auditions begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, in Eisenhower Auditorium for roles in Rioult’s Oct. 17 and 18 performances of Small Steps, Tiny Revolutions at Eisenhower.

Rioult (re-YOU) showcases the choreography of Pascal Rioult, a former star of the Martha Graham Dance Company.

Each auditioning child, accompanied by a parent or guardian, should arrive at Eisenhower at 10 a.m. Aug. 7. Entry is through the front lobby. Parents may wait in the auditorium during the auditions.

Children should dress in dancewear or leggings with their knees covered. Water is permitted in the auditorium. Children may bring snacks, but they must be eaten outside.

Twelve children will be selected for the dance performances. Rioult will notify children within about a week of the Aug. 7 auditions.

The Oct. 17 performance—for the general public—begins at 2 p.m. The Oct. 18 performance—for students in grades K-12—begins at 10 a.m. Since the Oct. 18 performance is on a Monday, dancers would need to miss at least half a day of school.

Dancers chosen through the auditions will rehearse after school each day Oct. 11 through 14 at Mount Nittany Middle School near Boalsburg. An Oct. 15 evening rehearsal and an all-day Oct. 16 rehearsal take place at Eisenhower.

For more information about the auditions, contact Amy Dupain Vashaw, Center for the Performing Arts audience and program development director, at (814) 863-8205 or adv1@psu.edu.
