Parthenia, a Consort of Viols, Presents A Tudor Songbook

New York’s premiere viol consort, Parthenia, will present A Tudor Songbook on Saturday, July 10 – 7:30 PM at Mills Concert Hall, located in the Humanities Building at 455 N. Park Street on the campus of University of Wisconsin-Madison. The concert will be preceded at 6:30 pm by a pre-concert lecture, A Tale of Two Dynasties by John W. Barker, Professor Emeritus of History, University of Wisconsin-Madison. This presentation is part of the 2010 Madison Early Music Festival.
Parthenia and virtuoso soprano Julianne Baird join forces for an evening of English music for viols and voice, featuring songs, dance suites, and fantasias from early Tudor through Elizabethan days. Joining them is MEMF Co-Artistic Director Cheryl Bensman-Rowe, soprano.

Parthenia, which consists of Beverly Au, Lawrence Lipnik, Rosamund Morley and Lisa Terry, has been hailed by the New Yorker as "one of the brightest lights in New York's early-music scene," is a dynamic ensemble exploring the extraordinary repertory for viols from Tudor England to the court of Versailles and beyond. Known for its remarkable sense of ensemble, Parthenia is presented in concerts across America, and produces its own lively and distinguished concert series at Corpus Christi Church in New York City, collaborating regularly with the world's foremost early music specialists and has been featured on radio and television and in prestigious festivals and series including Music Before 1800, Maverick Concerts and the Regensburg Tage Alter Musik.
