The World Premiere of Richard Brooks’ String Quartet No. 4 will be presented on Saturday, June 19 – 4 PM by the Zukofsky Quartet as part of Of Heloise and Abelard, an American Composers Alliance June Festival 2010 Concert at Symphony Space’s Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street in Manhattan.
String Quartet No. 4 was composed in the Winter and Spring of 2009. The first movement suggests a traditional sonata form with several contrasting thematic ideas presented, developed, combined and restated. The second movement is a free fantasy-style piece in a somewhat somber mood. The third movement is a multi-sectional structure meant to resemble a traditional scherzo. The final movement is a rhythmically vigorous finale combining features of sonata form and rondo form. Performance materials are available from the American Composers Alliance.
Other composers on the program include Derek Johnson, Jan Gilbert, Emil Awad, David Little and Kristen Kuster, in performances by Justin Montigne (former vocalist with Chanticleer), Anatole Wieck (viola), Duo Diorama and the Kolot Ensemble.
Tickets for the June 19 concert are $12; members $10; day of show $14. For more information, call 212-864-5400 or visit http://www.symphonyspace.org/event/6275-of-heloise-songs-of-abelard?source=calendar. More about American Composers Alliance and the Festival at http://composers.com/.
