Palm Beach Opera Welcomes David Blackburn as Dir. of Artistic Operations
“David Blackburn brings a wealth of artistic knowledge and international industry contacts to Palm Beach Opera, which will strengthen Palm Beach Opera’s artistic vision. Adding David to our team will allow me to focus increasingly on raising Palm Beach Opera’s profile, on advocacy in the Palm Beach community, and on fundraising in order to carry Palm Beach Opera forward” said Biaggi.
Prior to coming to PBO, Blackburn founded and managed NYIOP International, LLC, which scouts singers and organizes professional opera auditions around the world. Since its creation in 2003, the NYIOP Auditions have brought over 150 opera houses to hear singers in New York City, San Francisco, Beijing, Berlin, Bologna, Napoli and Vienna. Mr. Blackburn also acts as a consultant to a number of major opera houses and agencies worldwide, including acting as a professional casting consultant to the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Semperoper Dresden, as an international talent scout for the Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Program and The Juilliard School, and a consultant for International Opera Studio of the Opernhaus Zurich.
In addition to his work on the NYIOP auditions and in direct association with opera houses, he is a professional career consultant to the Adler Fellows at the San Francisco Opera, organizes the United States-based auditions for the Paris Opera Studio (Atelier Lyrique), and has taught at several prestigious summer programs including V.O.I.C.Experience in Orlando, Florida with Sherrill Milnes and at the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel. He has taken part on the jury of the National Semi-Finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the selection of the Richard Tucker Foundation Awards, the recommendation committee of the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, and the juries of the Competizione dell'Opera at the Sächsische Staatsoper "Semperoper" Dresden, the Hans Gabor Belvedere Gesangswettbewerb in Vienna and the Shreveport Opera Singer of the Year.
Palm Beach Opera is dedicated to producing world-class opera and diverse educational programs which play an integral role in the artistic and overall enrichment of the communities it serves. Palm Beach Opera was incorporated in May 1961 and is a proud member of the Palm Beach Cultural Council.
