‘FROM GERSHWIN TO GARLAND: A MUSICAL JOURNEY WITH

RICHARD GLAZIER’ AIRS ON KCET JUNE 9

Acclaimed Pianist Glazier is Foremost Authority on American Popular Songbook

Los Angeles — May 17, 2010 — On Wednesday, June 9, at 8:00 p.m., KCET, public media for Southern and Central California, airs From Gershwin to Garland: A Musical Journey with Richard Glazier as part of a special night of programming in support of KCET featuring the award-winning pianist and master storyteller Richard Glazier live at the KCET studios. Weaving fascinating commentary with entertaining piano performances, From Gershwin to Garland: A Musical Journey with Richard Glazier invites viewers to join Glazier on his nostalgic voyage, providing an opportunity to gain a new understanding of some of America’s greatest composers and singers. In an intimate studio setting, Glazier performs “Embraceable You,” “I Got Rhythm,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “An American in Paris,” “Body and Soul,” “Concerto in F,” “Bess, You is My Woman Now,” “Boy Next Door,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “The Trolley Song,” “Over the Rainbow” and “Rhapsody in Blue.” Glazier hosts the evening, playing classics on a piano donated by Steinway & Sons. About Richard Glazier

Richard Glazier is one of today’s foremost interpreters of the American Popular Songbook and most closely associated with music of George and Ira Gershwin. According to Michael Feinstein, “Richard Glazier has Gershwin in his soul.” Clavier Magazine wrote of him, “Gershwin’s piano music has found an exquisite voice in Richard Glazier.” Trained in the classics, Glazier earned undergraduate and Master’s degrees in piano performance from Indiana University School of Music and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music where he received the Alumni Achievement Award in 2007. He made formal classical debuts in New York, Boston, Los Angeles and Rome, and won several major international piano competitions including the Pro Musicis International Award and National Federation of Music Clubs Grand Prize. In 1996, in celebration of the George and Ira Gershwin’s Centennial, he began performing a one-man, multimedia concert program entitled Gershwin-Remembrance and Discovery. Other Glazier programs include Ragtime & Romance - The Music of Joplin and Gershwin, A Salute to the Hollywood Musical, A Salute to Judy Garland and Friends, and “Hooray for Love: The Music of Harold Arlen.” Glazier has performed in nearly every state of the union, bringing audiences not only the music of the Golden Age of American Popular Song, but fascinating commentary about the composers and performers of the era as well. Weaving stories, film clips and piano performances, Glazier’s programs are entertaining, educational and inspiring. For some of his audience, Glazier brings back fond memories, for others he gives an exciting glimpse of our musical heritage. About KCET
