Premiere of Concerto for Two Violins and Chamber Orch. by David Winkler

American composer David Winkler’s Double Concerto for Two Violins and Chamber Orchestra will be given its World Premiere by violinists Anna Rabinova and Dmitri Berlinsky, and the Long Island Mozart Festival Chamber Orchestra, led by Daniel Boico, as part of the Long Island Mozart Festival Mainstage concert on Sunday, May 16 – 2:00 PM at Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Road in Old Westbury, New York.
The composer’s new Double Concerto is in three movements and utilizes the same instrumentation as the Bach Double. It was composed in honor of the 50th Anniversary celebration of Old Westbury Gardens this year. Other works on the program are a Mozart Divertimento, J.S. Bach's Double Violin Concerto and Mozart's Eine Kleine Nacht Muzik.
Lawn seating for the May 16 concert is $10 for general, $8 for seniors (over 62) and children $5 (7-17), and 6 and under are free. Prices include the main stage concert and all ancillary activities for that day. Tickets can be purchased at Old Westbury Gardens on the day of the concert. Festival parking is free. David Winkler’s recent commissions have included new works for the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Symphony Un Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina; National Symphony Orchestra of Bolivia, Alabama Symphony (Birmingham, AL), The Korean Broadcasting System, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Queen's Chamber Band, Houston Grand Opera, and Kharkov Philharmonic (Ukraine). He has also been the recipient of commissions from the Kennedy Center for its 25th Anniversary Symphonic Commission program, an Aspen Music Festival Violin Concerto Commission, a Leonard Bernstein Tanglewood Composer Fellowship, a Fromm Foundation commission in cooperation with the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood, the BMI Young Composer Award and the Rapaport Prize, administered by Columbia University. He has been composer in residence with the Aspen Music Festival, the Banff Centre, Opera/Omaha (1996 and 1997), the Chautauqua Opera and the Lincoln Center Institute. He is a member of ASCAP and has been a recipient of several special ASCAP Awards.
