How one Maine Dancer Fought Cancer
For the fifth consecutive year, the Perform for a Cure event has joined together more than 200 performers, activists and youth from around the state to raise money for cancer research. This year, Natalie Parent, a Portland resident and tap dancer at the Dance Studio of Maine, had her first opportunity to help fundraise and participate. Natalie has been dancing for 10 years and has performed all over New England. Over the past few months, her family has struggled as her grandfather was diagnosed with cancer.
Natalie and her tap team raised money for the event and cancer research through ticket sales and performed a version of “Footloose” at Perform for a Cure held on April 11th. It was the first time her grandfather got to see her perform this piece, which has made her participation even more meaningful.
When asked about her experience at the event, Natalie replied “I was so happy to be apart of it, and that my grandfather was there to watch. He has been driving me to rehearsal for a long time and he finally got to see this dance!”
