Solo Piano Music of Judith Lang Zaimont Performed by Max Lifchitz

Judith Lang Zaimont’s Serenade for solo piano will be performed by Max Lifchitz as part of Feminine Touches/Toques Femeninos, Piano Music by Women Composers Fom the Americas, a concert presented by North/South Consonance on Sunday, April 18 – 3:00 PM at Christ and St. Stephen's Church, 120 West 69th Street (between Broadway & Columbus) in Manhattan.
Serenade was written in 2006 and premiered by the composer in Berkeley, California in November of that year. The piece is recorded on the Prestidigitations: Contemporary Concert Rags by J. L. Zaimont CD on MSR Classics (MS 1238) and can be seen on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/user/jamesarts#p/f/3/68ylwgJCPiE.
Other composers on the April 18 concert are Alla Borzova, Jennifer Castellano, Elisenda Fabregas, Katherine Hoover, Faye-Ellen Silverman, Jacqueline Nova, Alla Pavlova, Alicia Terzian, Awilda Villarini and Margarita Zelenaia.

Max Lifchitz was awarded first prize in the 1976 International Gaudeamus Competition for Performers of Twentieth Century Music held in Holland. Robert Commanday, writing for The San Francisco Chronicle described him as "a young composer of brilliant imagination and a stunning, ultra-sensitive pianist." New York Times music critic Allan Kozinn praised Mr. Lifchitz for his "clean, measured and sensitive performances" while Anthony Tommasini remarked that he "conducted a strong performance." Judith Lang Zaimont is internationally recognized for her music’s distinctive style, characterized by expressive strength and dynamism. A 2003 Aaron Copland Award winner, she has enjoyed a distinguished career as composer of over 100 works with performances by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Berlin and Czech Radio symphonies, and the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra. Her music is widely performed throughout the U.S. and Europe and has been recorded for the Naxos, Koch Classics, Arabesque, Milken Family Foundation, Albany, Jeanne, Leonarda, Northeastern, and 4Tay labels. She is editor-in-chief of the critically acclaimed book series The Musical Woman: An International Perspective.
