Clarinetist Michael Norsworthy in Concert in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa

Clarinetist Michael Norsworthy will be featured in three upcoming performances – Thursday, April 8 – 7:30 PM at Ted Mann Concert Hall on the campus of University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Friday, April 9 - 8 PM at Mills Concert Hall of University of Wisconsin in Madison and on April 11 – 7:30 PM at Riverside Recital Hall of University of Iowa in Iowa City. All three performances are presented by the University of Iowa Center for New Music, David Gompper, Director.

Mr. Norsworthy will be featured in performances of Michael Finnissy’s Clarinet Sonata with pianist David Gompper, and Magnus Lindberg’s Clarinet Quintet with the Maia String Quartet. Michael Norsworthy is Artist in Residence at Harvard University, Principal Clarinet of the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and a faculty member of The Boston Conservatory. A dedicated and persuasive champion of the music of our time, he has given premieres of over 80 works in collaboration with composers Harrison Birtwistle, Elliott Carter, Chris Dench, Pozzi Escot, Brian Ferneyhough, Michael Finnissy, Lukas Foss, Hans Werner Henze, Magnus Lindberg, Ralph Shapey and Marc Anthony Turnage, among others.

As soloist, Michael Norsworthy has performed an extensive repertoire of concerti, ranging from Mozart to Ferneyhough, with the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, Callithumpian Consort, NEC Contemporary Ensemble, Pottstown Symphony, Soria Chamber Players, Southern Illinois Symphony and Symphony Pro Musica, while audiences have heard his numerous recitals in New York , Boston, Cambridge, Chicago and St. Louis. Conductors he has worked with include Boulez, DePriest, Knussen, Levine, Muti, Robertson, Ozawa, Tilson Thomas and many others. Michael Norsworthy plays on Buffet Clarinets and mouthpieces by Kalmen Opperman.
