Innocent Wasteland – The New Crossover CD by Viennese Musician G. Krampl

February 1, 2010 | By Indigomusic - G. Krampl
With Innocent Wasteland Gerald has this time radically turned away from commercial concessions like radio playability, easy accessibility, clear song structures etc., in favor of a more free, back to his personal roots reaching musical comprehension.

The music on the album stays except two electronica tunes on a minimalistic base of piano and a maximum of two more synthetic string sounds (viola or violin cello), but extended with various electronic and nature sound effects which add to the whole the character of a soundtrack. Also one thing in mind was, that it should be possible to easily perform this music live with a kind of small chamber music ensemble, which hopefully can be realized in the near future.

The overall theme of this very reflective and somber, from classic and minimalism influenced album, which could nearly be seen as a concept album, is in general devoted to the endless cycle of destruction and the afterwards always following new awakening.

Besides Gerald's concern with spiritual and meditative music with his "Agnus Dei" project (combined New Age music & poetry and was formed in 1999 together with his wife and poet Hilde, who sadly passed away in 2002) and a classical fairy tales project also with especially composed meditative music accompanied (together with speaker Corinna Steinbock, 2009), is his trend to create music for pictures constantly getting stronger.

On one side for concretes, as for the multimedia projects of the Viennese producer Andreas Pflanzl / woom:mediaV3:

www.31projects.at - web presentation TV documentary about the Holocaust/Auschwitz, therefore written the music and released an expanded soundtrack CD, 2007,

www.7minuten.at - web presentation with "disability" as the thematic, also accompanied by Gerald's music, 2009

Further cooperative projects are already planned, but moreover Andreas Pflanzl is now also involved in the visual transformation of Gerald's actual album in form of video clips, graphics, etc., and he has also done the artwork for the actual CD cover.

And on the other side there is the music for kind of "imaginary films in mind", as to hear on his last CD "Timediver" (a prog-rock / electronica reminiscence to Gerald's former prog-rock times with his bands "Kyrie Eleison" and "Indigo" in the '70s and '80s), and obviously on his new album "Innocent Wasteland".

Soon after the release of the CD at the end of last year, which immediately led to excellent international feedback, it fortunately came to the new cooperation with the renowned Welsh agency TSM Promotion / N. Baldrian, who took over now the promotion and representation for the UK. Seems to be a good prove for the quality and potential of the music!
