Amore Opera Honors Amato Opera

January 22, 2010 | By Melissa Gerstein
Publicity Director
The newly formed Amore Opera Company will honor Anthony Amato, cofounder of the Artistic Director of the historic Amato Opera Company, at a special Gala Concert on February 14, 2:30 p.m. at the Baruch Performing Arts Center (Engelman Recital Hall) located at 55 Lexington Avenue.

“We wanted to honor Tony for his great contribution to community-based opera productions over the course of his sixty-plus years as the creator and director of the famed Amato Opera Company,” says Nathan Hull, president of Amore Opera. Without his generous contribution of sets, costumes, and, of course, sage advice, Amore Opera would not exist,” he added.

The program will feature the Amore Opera Singers, Chorus and Chamber Orchestra and will highlight a variety of well-known opera duets, trios and ensembles, including a preview selection from their upcoming March production of Lehar’s The Merry Widow. Tickets are $60.00 and tax deductible and will include a reception following the concert. Tickets are accessible by visiting the Amore Opera website at http://www.amoreopera.org/tickets or by calling 1-866-811-4111.

For more information about upcoming Amore Opera performances of Lehar’s The Merry Widow beginning March 12, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. and Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, opening on March 20, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., visit the Amore Opera website or call (646) 369-5247.
