Emmanuel Music Announces Winter-Spring Cantata Schedule

John Harbison, Acting Artistic Director and Michael Beattie, Associate Conductor, have programmed the second half of Emmanuel Music’s 2009-10 Bach Cantata season, which begins on Sunday, January 3 with John Harbison conducting BWV 152, Tritt auf die Glaubensbahn. The Cantatas are presented as part of the Sunday liturgy as Bach intended, at 10:00 AM on Sunday mornings at Emmanuel Church, 15 Newbury Street, Boston, where Emmanuel Music is the Ensemble-in-Residence.

On Sundays, January 31, February 21, April 11 and 18, Emmanuel Music will be presenting Handel Chandos Anthems Nos. 8, 6, 7, and 11 conducted by Michael Beattie. Special guest conductor on January 31 will be Jane Glover.

On February 28, Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater will be presented, John Harbison conducting.

On Sunday, March 14, as part of our Haydn/Schoenberg season, Schoenberg’s Psalm 130, De Profundis, will be presented, followed by a discussion in the Parish Hall with John Harbison, Pamela Werntz, Priest-in-Charge at Emmanuel Church, and Rabbi Howard Berman, of Boston Jewish Spirit - the Jewish congregation in residence at Emmanuel Church. All are invited to attend.

A work rarely performed in Boston will be presented on Good Friday, April 2, 2010 at noon in Leslie Lindsey Chapel as part of the liturgy on that day. Emmanuel Music will present the St. Luke Passion of Heinrich Schütz, conducted by Associate Conductor, Michael Beattie. CANTATA SCHEDULE JANUARY – APRIL 2010
