Peter Simon Returns from Israel Tour
American Concert Pianist Peter Simon recently returned from a concert tour of Israel where he also donated two pianos to: A Music Conservatory in Tiberius and a Girl’s Orphanage in Jerusalem. Said Simon from his home in Evergreen, Colorado: “The Israelis love music and have little money for instruments. I have raised money as well as contributing my own to purchase pianos for a music school that does not have a grand piano as well as a girl’s orphanage that has no instrument at all.”
Donating is nothing new to Peter Simon. Two years ago he toured and performed in Israel for free, raising money for music scholarships to needy students. In 1995 Mr. Simon performed a fundraising concert at Carnegie Hall for the victims of the Oklahoma City Bombing. Mr. Simon says, “Classical music ultimately expresses the dignity of the human spirit. It consoles people as well as expressing something profoundly beautiful. I believe that part of my job is to make sure that this music continues in every capacity possible. I especially want to give children the opportunity to learn this valuable art form.”
In addition to performing in Tiberius and Jerusalem, Mr. Simon donated large amounts of piano music to schools in Tiberius and Karmiel, as well as the girl’s orphanage. He also performed at the American Embassy in Tel Aviv and gave masterclasses.
