Frugal Fugal, a duettino for violin and harpsichord by American composer David Winkler will be given its World Premiere performance by violinist Anastasia Khitruk on Wednesday, December 9 at The Travellers, 25, Avenue des Champs Elysées in Paris, France, as part of the Musicale du Païva concert series.

The composer writes about the new work, “Frugal Fugal is a lively, spirited work for violin and harpsichord composed especially for Anastasia Khitruk. While brief in duration, its’ four-voice fugal texture is reminiscent of the baroque while at the same time wholly contemporary in style.”

David Winkler’s recent commissions have included new works for the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Symphony Un Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina; National Symphony Orchestra of Bolivia, Alabama Symphony (Birmingham, AL), The Korean Broadcasting System, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Queen's Chamber Band, Houston Grand Opera, and Kharkov Philharmonic (Ukraine). He has also been the recipient of commissions from the Kennedy Center for its 25th Anniversary Symphonic Commission program, an Aspen Music Festival Violin Concerto Commission, a Leonard Bernstein Tanglewood Composer Fellowship, a Fromm Foundation commission in cooperation with the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood, the BMI Young Composer Award and the Rapaport Prize, administered by Columbia University. He has been composer in residence with the Aspen Music Festival, the Banff Centre, Opera/Omaha (1996 and 1997), the Chautauqua Opera and the Lincoln Center Institute. He is a member of ASCAP and has been a recipient of several special ASCAP Awards.

Naxos has issued a critically acclaimed CD (American Classics No: 8.559383) featuring Mr. Winkler’s Piano Concerto and Elements Concerti.
