Nash Naubert, Bansuri, will perform an Indian classical flute recital on Friday, July 5, 2019, 8pm at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, located at 57th Street and Seventh Avenue in Manhattan. Naubert, an American citizen who has been living in India for the last 20 years, will be joined on Tabla by Aditya Kalyanpur, and by dancer Gaysil Naubert. Tickets are $30-40. Nash Naubert has pursued the art of Indian classical music to a high level of virtuosity which, along with his touring and volunteer work, speaks to his passion for Indian classical music. Nash will be accompanied on tabla by Aditya Kalyanpur, a virtuoso of the younger generation of players worldwide. Together they will present traditional ragas that date back centuries. The concert will end with ‘Hamsa,’ a fusion piece originally composed by Nash Naubert. The piece reflects the sound of birds, and will be interpreted by Gaysil Naubert through an original Peacock dance.

Following a youthful thread, the bucolic First Piano Quartet by the 34-year-old Antonín Dvo?ák leads to a striking Sextet for string quartet, bass, and a virtuoso piano part, composed and performed by Felix Mendelssohn at the astonishing age of 15.

Bang on a Can and the Jewish Museum’s 2019-2020 concert season begins with a performance by The Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC), founded and directed by Francisco J. Núñez. YPC will perform a concert that includes songs and poems by Leonard Cohen and others, coinciding with the Jewish Museum’s exhibition, Leonard Cohen: A Crack in Everything. A contemporary art exhibition inspired by the themes of Leonard Cohen’s life and work, the exhibition is the first of its kind entirely devoted to the imagination and legacy of the influential singer/songwriter, man of letters, and global icon from Montréal, Canada.

The irresistible family musical about the trials and triumphs of Israel’s favorite son, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has been one Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most popular musicals for five decades. One of the most enduring shows of all time, it is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers, and the coat of many colors. A diverse score that includes Joseph’s anthems “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door,” as well as colorful ensemble numbers in styles as wide-ranging as country western, ‘50s doo-wop and island calypso. The Axelrod production is being led by director-choreographer Matthew Steffens.

Pianist Sarah Cahill brings her ongoing project The Future is Female to the interactive music festival Flower Piano at the San Francisco Botanical Garden. Presented by Sunset Piano and SFBG, Flower Piano is a 12-day outdoor extravaganza combining music, community, and nature that turns the Garden into an al fresco concert hall. Cahill’s The Future is Female project features music by women from around the globe, ranging from the 18th century to the present, and she will perform unique sets of compositions on July 14 and July 18. Her program on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 11am in Zellerbach Garden includes music by Hélène De Montgeroult, Florence Price, and Vít?zslava Kaprálová. On Thursday, July 18 at 8pm in the Ancient Plant Garden, Cahill performs works by Žibuokl? Martinaityt?, Germaine Tailleferre, and Frangiz Ali-zadeh as part of Flower Piano at Night. Running 8pm-11pm, this is a special after dark event with beautifully lit pathways to pianos aglow with performances, food trucks, and outdoor bars.
