Bloomingdale School of Music 20th Annual Performance Exceeds Goal |

Bloomingdale School of Music's 20th Annual Performathon, an online student-driven performance fundraiser for the school's scholarship fund, will culminate in a live musical Zoom event on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 6pm, with remarks by Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer. The RSVP-only event is free, with registration available here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bloomingdale-school-musics-20th-annual-performathon-live-concert-tickets-106251521160
Days before the culminating event, the fundraiser has already surpassed the initial goal. Donations are greater in number and individual contributions at this point, likely a result of proud relatives across the country who can now see their young family members perform in a virtual world. Bloomingdale School of Music offers Ready, Set, Summer (Online)! virtual music classes over an eight-week summer session beginning July 6, 2020. Bloomingdale classes aim to educate students and instill discipline, fun and a passion for self-expression through music through high-quality instruction throughout the year. This summer in particular, Bloomingdale offers options for early childhood learners, K-12 students, and adults, in addition to opportunities for intergenerational learning and classes where no prior musical experience is necessary. Opera Saratoga announced today the three operas that will be featured at the center of the company's 2020 Summer Festival, to be presented at The Spa Little Theatre in Spa State Park, from June 19th through July 5th, 2020.
The 2020 Summer Festival will feature new productions of two audience favorites, Puccini's Madama Butterfly, and Gilbert & Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance, alongside the New York premiere of a riveting new opera by Lembit Beecher and Hannah Moscovitch, Sky on Swings, which received its critically acclaimed world premiere in 2018.
The Festival will also feature multiple concerts and public master classes highlighting the exceptional members of Opera Saratoga's Young Artist Program, under the direction of Laurie Rogers, who celebrates her tenth anniversary as the program's director in 2020. These additional events will culminate in a complete performance of Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, conducted by Maestra Rogers, on the final day of the Festival, July 5, 2020. |

The program seeks to transport listeners to a still, meditative space, inviting introspection about humanity’s place on the planet and inspiring action to protect our beautiful, fragile world. |

This installment will be dedicated to a live performance and discussion of lesser known works by the great violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe. Ysaÿe's Chant d'hiver (Winter's Song) and Mazurka "Dans le lointain" (in the distance) will be played by violinist Itamar Zorman and pianist Liza Stepanova, alongside a discussion with Ysaÿe expert Ray Iwazumi of The Juilliard School and G.
