Lully to Rameau
Lully and Rameau are the twin peaks of the French baroque, masters of opera and the dance. Their instrumental suites abound with airs, allemandes, bourrées, gavottes, gigues, menuets, sarabandes and other baroque dance sensations. Yip Yip Yaphank |
|
Considered among the top scholars on Irving Berlin, Benjamin Sears and Benjamin Conner American Classics gave the first revival of Irving Berlin’s Yip! Yip! Yaphank! in 2010. Originally written in 1918 as a benefit for Camp Upton in Yaphank on Long Island, the performances at the camp attracted attention from New York and the show transferred to Century Theatre. “Oh! How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning” is the most famous song from the show which also includes other views of Army life (“Poor Little Me, I’m a K.P.),” and the rousing finale “We’re On Our Way to France.” These performances will include one song cut from the show: “God Bless America” in its original version before Berlin’s revision for Kate Smith |
