From Friday, April 5 through Sunday, April 7, the Houston Symphony takes a musical trip to the Big Apple for 21st Century Broadway, with stunning performances from today’s greatest musicals, performed by four Broadway singers—Rodney Ingram, Hailey Kilgore, Derek Klena, and Ali Stroker. Fans can anticipate hit tracks including “All That Matters” from “Finding Neverland,” “Fabulous, Baby!” from “Sister Act,” “When the Sun Goes Down” from “In the Heights,“ ”Proud of Your Boy” from “Aladdin,” and more. Guests can look forward to a livestream performance on Saturday, April 6.

Founded in 1998 in Prague, the Bennewitz Quartet was named after the famous Czech violinist and teacher Antonin Bennewitz (1833-1926). They established their international reputation by winning two leading chamber music competitions: the Osaka (2005) and the Premio Paolo Borciani (2008). Joining them for this performance is pianist and composer Arsentiy Kharitonov. Known for his technical mastery and broad dramatic range, this remarkable artist won the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition and the Rachmaninoff Competition.

Dubbed by The New Yorker as a "cello goddess," Maya Beiser creates radical works for the cello, reimagining her instrument's boundaries with her iconoclastic performances and recordings. On her new album, out on April 5, Maya recreates Terry Riley’s In C as a series of ever-evolving cello loops. Enveloped by live drumming by Shane Shanahan and Matt Kilmer, Maya constructs a hypnotic, rapturous soundscape that re-envisions this classic 1964 Minimalist masterpiece, marking its 60th anniversary. Her performance at National Sawdust incorporates spatial sound designed specifically for the venue’s immersive Meyer Constellation system.

The Houston Symphony continues the PNC Family Series with “I’m a Superhero!” live at Jones Hall on Saturday, April 6. The Symphony welcomes families to attend dressed as their favorite heroes, while composer Gonzalo Farias conducts cherished tracks from renowned films, such as John Williams's "Summon the Heroes," "Superman March," Rey's theme from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, "The Flight to Neverland" from Steven Spielberg's Hook, as well as music from Batman, The Avengers, and The Incredibles. Additionally, the Symphony will perform Valerie Coleman's "Seven O'Clock Shout" in a heartfelt homage to the courageous frontline workers who tirelessly sustained and shielded the world during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
