The annual Usdan Center Gala features a patron dinner, followed by a Gala concert of students and special guests and awards. A Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Agnes Gund, President Emerita of the Museum of Modern Art. The event benefits Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, America's largest summer arts day camp, which has introduced the visual and performing arts to more than 40,000 young people ages 6 to 18, many on scholarship, for almost 40 years.

The National Flute Association will host a gathering of over 3000 flutists from around the globe in Pittsburgh at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center August 10-13, 2006. Prominent musicians from a dozen countries and five continents will be featured at the 34th annual convention. Events will include a multitude of concerts, competitions, panels, workshops and exhibits. Individual events are open to the public on a space available basis. Charles Semowich will perform a concert on the largest carillon in the world. He will perform music by Handel, Beethoven, and Menotti. There will also be selections related to New York City such as Give my Regards to Broadway and West Side Story. Original caillon music will include By Reason of My Truth and Pledge by Conrad Kehn and a piece by Charles Semowich.
