Clarion concludes its 2013-2014 season with three masterpieces that reveal both the virtuosity and versatility of Mozart’s final year, 1791. Artistic Director Steven Fox conducts The Clarion Orchestra in the sparkling Overture to The Magic Flute, followed by the final piano concerto No. 27 in B-flat major with Nimrod David Pfeffer making his Clarion debut on the fortepiano. In the second half, the Clarion Choir and soloists join the Orchestra for the Requiem. In addition to Mr. Pfeffer, who made solo debuts at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and with the Israeli Philharmonic in 2008, the evening’s soloists are soprano Lauren Snouffer of Houston Grand Opera, tenor Mario Chang, who recently made his Metropolitan Opera debut as the Italian Tenor in Rosenkavalier, and Phillip Cutlip, a seasoned soloist with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and New York City Opera. They join highly regarded singers of the New York Early Music scene: Molly Quinn, Virginia Warnken, Luthien Brackett, and Jesse Blumberg. |

| Art Spiegelman - “What the %@&*! Happened to Comics?” |
|
|
Friday, May 9, 2014
8pm — Sanders Theatre
Art Spiegelman's comics are best known for their scratch-board, illustrative style and controversial content. In his talk “What the %@&*! Happened to Comics?” he takes his audience on a chronological tour of the evolution of comics, all the while explaining the value of this medium and why it should not be ignored.
"… comics echo the way the brain works. People think in iconographic images, not in holograms, and people think in bursts of language, not in paragraphs."
—Art Spiegelman
