| Gesualdo Reflections |
2013 marks the 400th anniversary of the death of Italian composer, nobleman, and murderer Carlo Gesualdo. Beyond the tabloid-quality biography, Gesualdo wrote some of the most highly chromatic music of any composer, not only of his day, but for most of musical history. This program juxtaposes selections of Gesualdo with contemporary responses in the ethereal setting of the Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church.

| American Composers Orchestra’s coLABoratory: Playing It UNsafe |
American Composers Orchestra’s coLABoratory: Playing It UNsafe is the first and only professional research and development lab to support the creation of cutting-edge American orchestral music through no-holds-barred experimentation, encouraging composers to do anything but “play it safe.” Composers Du Yun, Troy Herion, Raymond J. Lustig, Judith Sainte Croix, and Dan Visconti have worked with ACO for six months to create new music that incorporates multimedia elements and film, unorthodox instruments, performances with musicians in other countries via Google Hangouts, and that utilizes vintage Speak & Spell toys and other obsolete analog devices as instruments. See and hear the results on April 5 at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall. |

When you say the name John Scofield to those in the know, there’s a great feeling of reverence for this great musician. His bio reads like a who’s who of the last four decades in jazz, performing with the likes of Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis. John Scofield’s time touring and performing with Miles Davis many years ago placed him firmly in the foreground of jazz consciousness both as a player and a composer. A hugely influential musician, John Scofield now brings his Hollowbody Band project with drummer Bill Stewart and bassist Ben Street to Wharton Center, featuring one of today’s great guitarists, Mike Stern. |

| Green Day's American Idiot |
Direct from Broadway, the smash-hit musical AMERICAN IDIOT tells the story of three lifelong friends forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Their quest for true meaning in a post 9/11 world leads them on the most exhilarating theatrical journey of the season.
Based on Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum album, AMERICAN IDIOT boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. The result is an experience Charles Isherwood of The New York Times declares “THRILLING, EMOTIONALLY CHARGED, AND AS MOVING AS ANY BROADWAY MUSICAL I’VE SEEN THIS YEAR!”
Featuring “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track, AMERICAN IDIOT features the music of Green Day and the lyrics of lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, direction by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), choreography by Olivier Award winner Steven Hoggett (Black Watch). |
