The third annual Lillian and Maurice Barbash J.S. Bach Competition announces an international roster of Finalists

On Wednesday December 1, at 1:00pm, five gifted young string players will vie for the $5000 Grand Prize of the third annual Lillian and Maurice Barbash J.S. Bach Competition.

The Competition Finals will be held live at Stony Brook University’s Staller Center Recital Hall and will be streamed live at The Violin Channel. Admission is free of charge.

The finalists, representing top ranked music schools including The Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, New England Conservatory, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Yehudi Menuhin School are:


Geirþru´ður Anna Guðmundsdo´ttir, cello / Andrew Laven, cello / Lun Li, violin,

Tianyou Ma, violin //Jaewon Wee, violin

 

The Finals will be adjudicated by jurors Colin Carr, Eugene Drucker, Robert Mealy, Marilyn McDonald, and Arthur Haas. Each finalist will perform a work composed by J.S. Bach for unaccompanied string instrument.  The competition was established to honor Long Island residents Lillian and Maurice Barbash for their life-long commitment to the arts.

After a season of pandemic shutdown, we are thrilled to host live performances by some of the nation’s leading young artists on our stage. We thank the Barbash family for establishing a competition that honors their parents, and for championing young interpreters of the great J.S. Bach”
