We are pleased to announce the second annual Lillian and Maurice Barbash J.S. Bach Competition for string players age 16-30. Finals will be held at the Stony Brook University Staller Center Recital Hall on Tuesday December 1, 2020. In the event social distancing requirements are still in place, we will conduct the Finals via Zoom or another digital platform. The Finals will be live streamed by The Violin Channel and by Stony Brook University.
Submission form and requirements can be viewed at https://jsbachcompetition.org/
In no event will the competition be postponed or cancelled. We think it is important to give young musicians this opportunity.
Our stellar panel of jurors includes Stanley Ritchie, Philip Setzer, Tanya Tomkins, Colin Carr, and Stephanie Chase.
We are very proud that the winner of the inaugural Lillian and Maurice Barbash J.S. Bach Competition, violinist Rachell Ellen Wong, is the recent recipient of a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. Ms. Wong is the first baroque artist to receive this coveted honor.
“Winning the inaugural year of the Lillian and Maurice Barbash J.S. Bach Competition has been an amazing experience for me. I continue to benefit from their support, long after the competition date. It has led to many great opportunities for me, from meeting the esteemed jury, to playing at the first Island Symphony Bach Festival! Getting to know the truly wonderful Barbash family has been the highlight of my experience and I feel very lucky that they continue to be in my life.”
