Quintet of the Americas Presents “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue” Concert on April 14 at Queens Botanical Garden

Quintet of the Americas will present Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Spring in the Garden, a concert on Sunday, April 14 from 3 to 4:40 PM at Queens Botanical Garden, 43-50 Main Street, Flushing, NY.

Quintet of the Americas, Queens’ renowned woodwind quintet, will present this eclectic program of music covering Gershwin, blues, pop, folk, and minimalism, and influenced by Chinese, Latin, and Middle Eastern cultures. Included are Gershwin’s Prelude III, Xinyan Li’s Mo Suo’s Burial Ceremony, Scott Joplin’s Heliotrope Bouquet, Queens-resident James Cohn’s Sourwood Mountain Variations, Williams and Williams’ Royal Garden Blues, Valerie Coleman’s Tzigane, Ricardo Romaneiro’s Ventos and Adam Young’s Fireflies, from his Owl City project.

The April 14 event is free with Botanical Garden admission (Adults $6, Seniors (age 62 ) $4, Students $4, Children (ages 4 to 12) $2, Children (age 3 and under) – FREE). This event is first-come, first-served with limited seating. Botanical Garden members are free. Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, Quintet of the Americas has specialized in bringing music from the Western hemisphere to audiences in the United States since its arrival in New York in 1979. The group has enjoyed an international career that has taken them to concert halls throughout the Americas and Eastern Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, and the Library of Congress. Members are Karla Moe, flute, Matt Sullivan, oboe, Ben Baron, clarinet, Barbara Oldham, horn and Sasha Gee Enegren, bassoon.
