Featuring Pianist Ignat Solzhenitsyn, Violinist Korbinian Altenberger, and Cellist Na-Young Baek
 

New York, NY (March 13, 2019) — The ASPECT Foundation for Music & Arts continues its third New York City season of illuminating performances with Archduke Rudolf: Beethoven’s Pupil and Patron on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 7:30pm at Bohemian National Hall. Russian-American pianist and conductor Ignat Solzhenitsyn is joined by violinist Korbinian Altenberger and cellist Na-Young Baek for a program of works Beethoven dedicated to his most significant patron and composition student, Archduke Rudolf of Austria: the Violin Sonata No.10 in G major, Op.96 and Piano Trio in B-flat major, Op. 97 “Archduke.”

Ignat Solzhenitsyn, currently the Principal Guest Conductor of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Laureate of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, will present the concert’s illustrated talk exploring the Archduke Rudolf of Austria’s life and unusual friendship with Beethoven. Beethoven dedicated fifteen of his most important works to Rudolph, more than any other individual, including the Fourth and Fifth Piano Concertos and the Missa solemnis.

The final concert of ASPECT’s 2018-2019 season is Music of the 18th Century Grand Tour on Thursday, May 30 at Bohemian National Hall featuring the Four Nations Ensemble with soprano Pascale Beaudin.

About Ignat Solzhenitsyn
Recognized as one of today's most gifted artists, and enjoying an active career as both conductor and pianist, Ignat Solzhenitsyn's lyrical and poignant interpretations have won him critical acclaim throughout the world.

Principal Guest Conductor of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Laureate of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Ignat Solzhenitsyn is much in demand as a guest conductor, having recently led the symphonies of Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Dallas, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Nashville, Phoenix, Seattle, and Toronto, the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Czech National Symphony, as well as many of the major orchestras in Russia including the Mariinsky Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Moscow Philharmonic, and the Moscow Symphony.  He has partnered with such world-renowned soloists as Richard Goode, Gary Graffman, Steven Isserlis, Leila Josefowicz, Sylvia McNair, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Garrick Ohlsson, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Mitsuko Uchida.

In recent seasons, his extensive touring schedule in the United States and Europe has included concerto performances with numerous major orchestras, including those of Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Saint Louis, Los Angeles, Seattle, Baltimore, Washington, Montreal, Toronto, London, Paris, Israel, and Sydney, and collaborations with such distinguished conductors as Herbert Blomstedt, James Conlon, James DePreist, Charles Dutoit, Lawrence Foster, Valery Gergiev, Krzysztof Penderecki, André Previn, Mstislav Rostropovich, Gerard Schwarz, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Maxim Shostakovich, Yuri Temirkanov and David Zinman. He has given recitals at US venues such as New York’s 92ndStreet Y, Philadelphia's Kimmel Center, St. Paul's Ordway Theatre, Ann Arbor’s Hill Auditorium, Salt Lake City’s Abravanel Hall, San Francisco’s Herbst Theatre, as well as in Europe and the Far East in such major musical centers as London, Milan, Zurich, Moscow, Tokyo, and Sydney.

An avid chamber musician, Solzhenitsyn has collaborated with the Emerson, Borodin, Brentano, and St. Petersburg String Quartets, and in four-hand recital with Mitsuko Uchida. He has frequently appeared at international festivals, including Salzburg, Evian, Ludwigsburg, Caramoor, Ojai, Marlboro, Nizhniy Novgorod and Moscow’s famed December Evenings.

A winner of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Ignat Solzhenitsyn serves on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music. He has been featured on many radio and television specials, including CBS Sunday Morning and ABC’s Nightline.  Born in Moscow, Solzhenitsyn resides in New York City.

About Korbinian Altenberger
German native Korbinian Altenberger received top prizes at the Tibor Varga, Michael Hill, ARD and Montreal Competitions. He has appeared widely as soloist with major orchestras across the globe, including the Auckland Philharmonia, Munich Philharmonic, Halle Philharmonic, Orchestre National, and the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, among numerous others.

As a recitalist and chamber musician Altenberger has performed in the major concert halls of Europe, South America, US, Asia and Israel. As a chamber musician he performed at the Marlboro Music Festival, the Moritzburg Festival and the Verbier Festival with musicians such as Mitsuko Uchida, Richard Goode, Kim Kashkashian and Ignat Solzhenitsyn.

A winner of Astral’s 2005 National Auditions, he marked his New York recital debut 2010. Altenberger holds degrees from the Musikhochaschule Köln, the New England Conservatory and from the University of Southern California. His teachers were Charles-André Linale and Donald Weilerstein.

Altenberger is currently a concertmaster of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, under Mariss Jansons, and a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, under Claudio Abbado.

About Na-Young Baek
Cellist Na-Young Baek made her debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and played with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, DuPage Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, and the Korean Chamber Ensemble in major venues including the Academy House in Philadelphia and Rheingau Musik Festival in Germany. She made her NYC debut in Carnegie Hall, and her Dame Myra Hess concert series recital was broadcasted live in Chicago. She was invited to play at the Marlboro Music Festival for three summers and played in Musicians From Marlboro tours in 2008 and in 2011. In addition, she made her chamber music appearance in Aspen Music Festival, Issac Stern Seminar in Israel, Schuleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Germany, and was featured in Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Salle Gaveau in Paris, Cadogan Hall in London, and the NPR’s Performance Today.

Ms. Baek holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music, Yale University, the Juilliard School, and Stony Brook University. Her teachers include Orlando Cole, Aldo Parisot, and Colin Carr, and at end of her study with Aldo Parisot, she was awarded an “Aldo Parisot Prize.” While pursuing her degrees, she won first prizes in the Philadelphia Orchestra Competition, Hudson Valley Philharmonic Competition, and Holland-America Music Society Competition Na-Young is a member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Sejong Soloists, East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO), and Metropolis Ensemble, and is an adjunct faculty at the Kean University.
