Concerts at Saint Thomas December Performances Include Handel’s Messiah, Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, and Messiaen’s La Nativité du Seigneur

In collaboration with New York Baroque Incorporated, the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys will continue their acclaimed annual tradition with two performances of Handel’s Messiah December 4 and 6

Featuring harpist Sara Cutler, the Boys of the Saint Thomas Choir will perform Benjamin Britten’s intimate A Ceremony of Carols December 13

Organist and Music Director Daniel Hyde will further showcase Saint Thomas’s new Miller-Scott Organ with a special performance of Messiaen’s La Nativité du Seigneur December 22

For immediate release — New York, NY — Concerts at Saint Thomas will host a special series of holiday programs this December, featuring their annual tradition of Handel’s Messiah December 4 & 6, Britten’s introspective A Ceremony of Carols December 13, and Messiaen’s masterful organ cycle La Nativité du Seigneur December 22, performed on their newly inaugurated Miller-Scott Organ.

The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys and New York Baroque Incorporated will present Handel’s Messiah on December 4 & 6 in an annual tradition that The New York Times calls “one of the most prominent and special [Messiahs] of the city.” The program will be conducted by Saint Thomas Organist and Director of Music, Daniel Hyde. Guest soloists will include soprano Elizabeth Weisberg, mezzo-soprano Meg Bragle, tenor Thomas Cooley, and bass Alexander Dobson.

Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols will be performed on December 13 featuring the Boys of the Saint Thomas Choir and harpist Sara Cutler. Britten’s famous sequence of carols has become a contemporary Christmas tradition since its composition in the nineteen-seventies, and will be performed alongside other holiday works under the direction of Daniel Hyde.

Daniel Hyde will also perform Olivier Messiaen’s holiday organ masterpiece, La Nativité du Seigneur on December 22 as part of Concerts at Saint Thomas’s Grand Organ Series. This unique nine-piece cycle offers listeners a synesthetic world of color and sound, perfect for showcasing some of the most hidden and delicate sounds of the Miller-Scott Organ.
