February 6 – New York - Feinstein's/54 Below Salutes The Second Act Series presents a one-night-only concert of the much-loved, madcap musical Charlotte Sweet, with music by Gerald Jay Markoe and book and lyrics by Michael Colby. One of the most acclaimed musicals of 1982, Charlotte Sweet spotlights an unusually high voiced soprano, Charlotte, who because of her father's debts, is forced to leave her Liverpool sweetheart, Ludlow Ladd, and join Barnaby Bugaboo's Circus of Voices. The troupe of freak voices includes low-voiced Katinka Bugaboo, fast-voiced Harry Host, bubble-voiced Cecily Macintosh, and Skitzy Scofield (with dual personalities & voices). The February event will be narrated by the original Charlotte, Mara Beckerman, who received one of the show’s three Drama Desk Award nominations in 1983: Outstanding Music (Markoe), Outstanding Lyrics (Colby), and Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Beckerman). The toast of Off-Broadway, Charlotte Sweet was featured in coveted display at Henri Bendel, courtesy of the legendary Geraldine Stutz, who transformed the store in the 1960s into a bellwether of all things chic and ahead of the curve. Set to star as Charlotte is Adrienne Eller, most recently seen in the National Tour of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder.
