Florence Price's Joyous American Concerto
Live Performance Video, March 2, 2023
I couldn't be more thrilled to have Sara Buechner's performance of this uniquely celebratory
Piano Concerto available on the internet. The Piano Concerto of Florence Price
(1887 - 1953) is a delight from beginning to end, with a profoundly beautiful
slow movement and a terrific ragtime finale. Since its relatively recent re-discovery
it is becoming a repertoire item for pianists, and I'd say this was Sara Buechner's
best rendition of it yet.
With Symphony Nova Scotia in Halifax, Canada,
Holly Mathieson, conductor.

Sara Davis Buechner enjoyed a busy 2022-23 season, appearing with the orchestras of Cheyenne, Harrisburg, Rhode Island, Oakland, Edmonton, Halifax, Laval, Niagara, and Oakland; and in recitals in Chicago, Baltimore, New York and many other North American cities. Overseas she was featured at the Cremona Festival in Italy and gave the closing speech (virtually) of the ELIA Conference in Helsinki, Finland.

This summer she returns to the Chautauqua Institut and the Orford Music Festival in Canada; and plays the complete Violin and Piano Sonatas of Beethoven with Alex Peskanov at Bargemusic in New York City. In the fall she’ll play the Brahms First Piano Concerto with orchestras in Uruguay and Brazil; and have a winter tour of recitals and master classes in Japan, Korea, Indonesia and Thailand.

Her autobiographical theater show “Of Pigs and Pianos” opened to rave reviews from the New York Times in 2021, and continued to garner acclaim at the Jungle Theater in Minneapolis and other dramatic venues around the country.

Ms. Buechner is featured on the cover of the Spring 2023 issue of Piano magazine, with a 10-page interview as its lead story.

As a popular pedagogue on the Los Angeles-based piano website ToneBase where her videos about Mozart and piano interpretation are among the most-viewed in their extensive online library.

Her latest recording on the Grammy-winning BCMD label, "Danzas para Dos Pianos,” with duo partner Charles Abramovic, is of rare and delightful Spanish dance-inspired works by Manuel Infante, Carlos Guastavino and Morton Gould.
